Men’s A Team: Breaking the Curse and Building Momentum

Our Men’s A team had a successful weekend, securing two important wins in back-to-back games. Led by coach Mathias Durand, the team displayed resilience, control, and solid defense, further establishing our standing in the league.

Saturday, October 19 – Victory over Litoměřice 76-57

The game against Litoměřice carried an extra edge, as the players mentioned they hadn’t won in that arena for many years. Coach Durand remarked on this achievement: “The players told me they haven’t won in this arena for many years. Well, the curse is broken!” From the very start, the team took control, claiming the lead in the first quarter and maintaining it throughout. “We took the lead in the first quarter and never lost it. It looked like we were in control of the pace on offense, and, once again, our defense was solid,” said Durand, highlighting the team’s balanced effort on both ends of the court.

Despite some inconsistency in transition defense, Vyšehrad held steady against an aggressive opponent. Coach Durand appreciated the team’s overall performance, emphasizing the importance of their movement and coordination on offense: “We’re inconsistent on our transition defense but overall, we played a good game against a team who tried to run and be aggressive for 40 minutes. Our ball movement made the difference on offense.”

Sunday, October 20 – Victory over Sokol Kbely 84-59

In the second game, Vyšehrad faced Sokol Kbely, and although the team struggled to find their rhythm initially, they turned things around in the second half. Coach Durand acknowledged the challenges of the first two quarters: “It was hard to find our rhythm and intensity during the first half.” However, the third quarter marked a significant shift, with the team making a decisive run that put them in command of the game.

Defense once again played a key role in the victory, providing opportunities for fastbreaks and quick points. Durand noted, “We made a run in the 3rd quarter that made the difference. Another great defensive performance that led to many fastbreak opportunities.” He was also pleased with the team’s improvement in offensive flow, signaling positive progress for the season ahead: “We focused on our offensive flow, and we’re making progress overall in that regard.”
